Football Friday Night

The Yellow Jackets began their 07 season with rival Strom Thurmond who had beaten them for the last four seasons. Last year the Jackets finished with a disappointing 1-9 record and be judging from the attitude of the players and coaches on the sidelines, I think it's safe to say they're tired of losing. They got behind 17-0 and it didn't look good, that's when one the most memorable nights I've ever had covering a football game started to happen. First a thunder storm hit with some fantastic lightning started up, forcing the game to be postponed in the 2nd quarter. I sought refuge in the souvenir stand from the rain (thanks to Rick) while we waited out the rain he checked several times with someone on the cell phone about the status of the storm. I shot a few picturs of the people trying to stay dry and kept and eye on the time because the deadline was looming near. Finally, I had to go home and transmit. Then decided to go back and catch the finish. It was almost half-time when I got back and I talked with one my photo buddies for a few minutes about Nikon's new camera (D3). Th second half was like no other game I'd ever covered in North Augusta before, 27 unanswered points, (4TD passes gave the Jackets the win). They players and coaches all excited about their win. I heard one player say "It's a new era, no more losing" After the game the fans swarmed the field, hugs and high fives were easily had, it was like they had won the championship. I just sat back watching, sometimes this is my downfall as a photographer, I should have kept shooting but part of me wanting to soak it all up, not wanted to miss a minute of it. I'm happy for them, I saw a lot of frustration lifted of those guys backs Friday night. Next week, cross town rival Mustangs.
