I have to back up minute and say that my immediate neighborhood didn't receive much damage in Saturday's storm but after touring the surrounding areas there was plenty to go around.
Saturday afternoon my son was begging me to take him to the golf course and get in a quick 9, it was threatening to rain but we took a chance anyway and got 3 holes in before lightening ended our day. As soon as we pulled in the yard its was raining sideways and the wind was tremendous. About the time we got to the door you could hear what sounded like a freight train going over, my wife said it's gotta be a tornado, but soon the sound passed and we had lots of rain, still windy but not quite like it was before. After watching the news I headed down to the valley Sunday afternoon to survey the damage and it was pretty bad in places but it could have been a lot worse. It's amazing no one was killed.
I met this guy (pictured in 3rd and 4th photo from top) and held told me how the wind ripped the door off the cement block garage he was living in. He said "there was no where to go, I was like chicken little, the sky is falling, Crash bang boom is all I heard" But he laughed and said the good Lord was looking out for him. He seemed so content with his meager belongings. I asked him what he needed most. I was expecting him to say a new house, a car, trip to the Bahamas or maybe the winning lottery ticket. He looked at me and paused and thought for a moment and then said " some wire would be nice so I could run a line to my neighbors and maybe get some power" We walked out back of his place and saw all the debris and huge oak trees blown down all over the place. He just laughed and said "the storm blew everything up here except money and women" I laughed with him, I learned a lot Sunday evening.
